Dear man,

Did you know that over half of the women in the Netherlands feels unsafe? If you let that sink in, you may realise how insanely big that problem is, actually. But what causes this sense of unsafety then?

Well, not bears in any case...

Abuse, violence, war... As men we do not always show up in the news in a flattering fashion.

Hey, but not all men do such things, right?

No, but it is almost every time a man doing it.

The bright side is that as men we can turn this around. None of this is about guilt or fear - victims and perpetrators. It is about safety and responsibility.

It is high time we become protectors, rather than a threat, and that we call in each other on that responsibility. That we as men show one another: We can do better than this! We have to do better than this! And we pull this off together!

Unsafety concerns all of us. Let this Men's March be a first step in a sustainable cultural change towards a culture in which everyone is safe.

NUMBERS

20.000

Dutch men travel to foreign countries to abuse children annually.

53%

1 op de 4

of Dutch women has experienced sexual violence.

60%

of young women often feel unsafe.

43.000

children are abused every year in the Netherlands.

43

And then the Netherlands is one of the safest places in the world...

If we as men would all act as protectors, not just for our own loved ones, but to everyone, then we solve this whole problem of unsafety.

Too often still men say: "But I'm not doing any of that", "Others are causing it" or "But women are also committing abuse."

But pointing at others is not what taking responsibility looks like.

How amazing it would be if we our shoulders under this change together? That we would experience brotherhood in manifesting more equality. Because as it is, many men also experience unsafety among other men.

That is why me learn that masculinity is not about dominance but about responsibility.

DOE MEE. LOOP MEE

Because of all that, the Men's March. Will you walk with us?

Every women has a story

About intimidation

About fear

About violence

About transgression

Unsafety concerns us all

It is not only a women's problem.

It is our shared problem.

Time for responsibility

It is time to stand up for - and walk for - a world that is safe for all.

Men's Manifesto

I am a man. A son, partner, father, friend, colleague, passer-by.

I stand for a world that is safe. On the streets. At home. At school. At work. On all places where people come together.

A world in which it is considered normal that women are treated equally and with respect. Where children grow up with their physical integrity intact. Where me support each other instead of bringing each other down. And where everyone can safely be themselves.

I state that this safety concerns everyone, instead of those who tend to be most at risk: women and children. Men should take the initiative in taking this on.

I state that healthy masculinity expresses itself in presence and responsibility instead of display of power. So I choose humanity over division, fear and hatred.

I state that every man can make a difference. Myself, I take responsibility for my words, my actions and my influence. I want to be an example.

So I call out sexism, abuse and violence. I step up when I see it happen.

This world needs more trustworthy men. I acknowledge that I am not perfect, but I do my best to be a safe man.

We take responsibility for the culture that we create as men.

We take care of a world in which our daughters are safe.

Through our actions, we show our sons and other men what respect means truly.

We stand for a world in which no person is abused ever again.

We call each other out when we see boundaries being crossed or remarks without respect are being made.

We strife for equality between men and women.

Support us

A safer world apparently does not appear just like that. It requires men who stand up and people willing to support this movement. Organising the Men's March requires funds, for promotion, hiring inspiring speakers and many different materials. With any contribution, big or small, you help this Men's March succeed.
